Biography
Leo Leiderman is Full Professor and Head of the Institute for Research of Economic Strategies (IRES) at the Peres Academic Center. He is also Emeritus Professor at Tel-Aviv University, where he was Full Professor of Economics, Chair of the School of Economics and Head of the Yael Chair for Comparative Economic Research. Currently Prof. Leiderman is the Chief Economic Advisor for Bank Hapoalim. Among previous senior positions Leiderman held are: Senior Director and Head of the Research Department at the Bank of Israel, Managing Director for Research of Emerging Market Economies at Deutsche Bank in Wall Street, and Director of the Sapir Institute for Development at Tel Aviv University. Professor Leiderman holds a Ph.D. Degree in Economics from the University of Chicago in the U.S., where he wrote his doctoral thesis under the supervision of Nobel Laureate Professor Robert E. Lucas, Jr. Leiderman’s research work focuses on topics such as: international economics, financial markets, economic growth, central bank policies, emerging markets economics and of course Israel’s economy. He has published about 70 articles in professional academic articles and 7 books (as editor in some of them). Among his publications dealing with Israel’s economy is the book, Inflation and Disinflation: The Israeli Experiment, Chicago: The University of Chicago Press (1993).
